We are delighted to be underway with the first of our case studies for the PISTACHIO project.

The focus of this case study is on two paintings of Reverend Thomas Reid (1710–1796), Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. One of these paintings is from the collection of the Hunterian Art Gallery, whilst the other is from a private collection.

Our initial work combines the use of stereomicroscopy, UV photography and portable XRF to investigate the techniques and materials used in each of the paintings.
